Fun Friday: Weekend TV Preview

Well, I guess this was inevitable. After almost a full summer of fantastic weekend television programming, we finally hit the doldrums. I’m not going to sugarcoat it for you, this weekend is pretty rough. Here’s a video of a parrot doing a somersault and then playing bowling, golf, and basketball to help make things a little better.

Honestly, if you want to spend the day at the golf course or the local pool, I won’t think less of you. Let’s get into the schedule.

What to Watch

Scarface – AMC, Friday 10pm

Well, I guess things aren’t SO bad. Pacino running around like a crazy person with a pretty terrible Cuban accent isn’t the worst way to spend a Friday night.

Boss – Starz, Friday, 9pm

Season 2 of Boss begins tonight. Kelsey Grammer stars as the mayor of Chicago in this political drama. You probably shouldn’t watch season 2 without seeing season 1 first, but this show does so poorly in the ratings that if you could please just turn it on, put it on mute and go somewhere else, that’d be a big help. Thanks guys.

College Football Preview Show – CBS, Saturday, 1pm

Fall is so close you can taste it. Literally, I just went out and bought a six pack of Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale and I’ll probably watching this boring show with tears in my eyes because FOOTBALL IS ALMOST HERE. RIP Baseball, you had a good run (no you didn’t).

Like Mike 2: Streetball – BET, Saturday 3:30pm

MY GOD. They made another Like Mike. This is not optional.

Independence Day – Spike, Saturday 8:30pm

Here’s the deal: every time Independence Day is on I’m going to let you know about it. If I knew that you were aware that ID4 was on over the weekend and you withheld that information from me, well that would probably be the end of our friendship. So just trust me that I have your back here.

Tombstone – AMC, Sunday 6pm

Sam Elliot’s mustache in this one is worth the price of admission alone.

Breaking Bad – AMC, Sunday 10pm

Somehow, we only have 3 episodes of Breaking Bad left for this summer. After that we have to wait a whole year to see how this ship sails. Since the last episode ended on a bit of a GASP, I’m gonna buckle up for the tail end of Season 5 part 1.

What to Avoid

Cowboys and Aliens – Cinemax, Friday, 8pm

Before this movie even came out Harrison Ford told everyone he was only doing it for the money, probably attempting to soften the blow of how bad it would be. He’s basically drunk you trying to do karaoke. “I’LL DO IT BUT I HAVEN’T PRACTICED SO DON’T EXPECT MUCH.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel – FX, Friday, 8pm

Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings – Syfy, Saturday, 10:30am

I guess it is pretty difficult to make the right turn even after 3 horribly bad tries.

Jeepers Creepers – Syfy, Saturday, 12:30pm

As in: Jeepers Creepers Syfy, you pick some bad movies

Evan Almighty – E!, Saturday, 8pm

Truthfully, I haven’t met anyone who thought Bruce was that ‘Almighty’. Except Springsteen fans. God, don’t even get me started.

And that’s it, everybody. Hopefully next weekend TV will finish off August with a better effort than effort than this one.
